    Additional Info
Among the most colorful of the early Seventh-day Adventist church workers was Stephen Nelson Haskell. A self-made man, fearless, and endowed with ingenuity, courage, and vision, Haskell led in a number of enterprises that were accepted and established by the denomination. He was the first to make an around-the-world trip in the interest of Adventist missions, taking almost two years. He was a leader in city mission work, and we think of him as the father of the tract and missionary societies from which developed the Book and Bible Houses and two departments of the church–Publishing and Home Missionary.

  • Exploring Mark : A Devotional Study

    $30.79

    Mark for Contemporary Christians

It was the worst of times. The believers faced the atrocities of an emperor gone mad. They were burned alive. Torn apart. Amid Roman horror, Mark decided the church needed some good news.

No one had ever written a Gospel before. Later Gospels enhance the picture, but Mark set the mold. Other Gospels focus more on Jesus’ teaching; but in Mark, the Man of Action marches rapidly through the Jewish milieu of first-century Palestine-all the way to the cross.

And now George Knight brings Mark’s world down to ours with a user-friendly devotional commentary that goes behind the scenes and, with a new translation, unfolds the rich tapestry of Mark for contemporary Christians.

Mark’s Jesus demanded secrecy on the part of His disciples. But He also said, “Whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed” (Mark 4:22, NIV). In this commentary Mark’s secrets about Jesus are revealed to enlarge the searching mind and bless the seeking heart.

  • Mystery Of Israel

    $14.99

The Jews are only a fraction of 1 percent of the world’s population. So why do they continue to occupy center stage in world affairs? Jacques B. Doukhan, an Adventist scholar of Jewish heritage, attempts to unravel the mystery of Israel by taking a closer look at the scriptural evidence.

Doukhan shows how careless interpretations of Scripture can spawn anti-Semitism. He examines the traditional theories: Has God rejected the Jews as His special people and replaced them with the Christian church (supersessionism)? Or does He have two separate ways of salvation, Judaism and Christianity, under different covenants (dispensationalism)? Or is there a third and better way to understand God’s plan for the Jew?

Israel has the law without Jesus, and the church has Jesus without the law. Doukhan argues that the movements diverged when Christianity rejected the law, and suggests that Adventism can play an important role in healing the breach.

  • Champions Of The King

    $23.19

Jesus’ worst enemy is about to become His best friend, and history will flow in a new channel. As Saul the Slayer becomes Paul the apostle, you are there, watching him and his fiends-Peter, Barnabas, Silas, Luke, John-turn the world upside down.

Welcome to the acts of the Apostles as you’ve never known it before. Flat Bible characters suddenly jump into rich 3-D. Ancient stories come alive through the eyes of Bible-times children who are right there on the scene.

Starting with a fishy encounter with Peter, you’ll watch Jesus ascend into the sky, then see Ananias and Sapphira drop dead, all through the eyes of Elihu, the son of the man whose ear Peter cut off in the garden. And that’s just the beginning. Antonia, Thaddeus, Sulimon, Dion, and all the rest will keep you smack-dab in the center of the action during the exciting cradle years of the Christian church. Let’s go!

  • Guides Greatest Sabbath Stories

    $19.59

“I will give you people exactly five minutes to decide whether or not you will work on Saturday.”

Within five seconds came their determined but respectful reply. “We cannot and will not work on the Sabbath, though the heavens fall!”

“What?” screamed the astonished Nazi, almost dropping his eyeglasses. “Well, then,” he stammered, “I hope your God can hear through the walls of a concentration camp!”

Here is a collection of amazing but true stories about God’s faithfulness to those who honor His holy day. A father has no money to send his children to church school until his boss offers him a raise-if he will work on Sabbath just this once. A son is offered a stack of money if he will forget his Adventist scruples. A man with a gun aimed at his heart has to decide whether to honor his conscience.

Seventh-day Adventist athletes face Sabbath tournaments, musicians face Sabbath recitals, and students face Sabbath exams. Fishermen leave huge fish waiting in their nets at Friday sundown. Even inanimate objects honor the Sabbath-like the hammer that wouldn’t work on that day, the thick harness torn in two by an invisible hand, and one super capacity water jug.

Sometimes angels get into the act. One explains the seventh day in a dream. Helpful guides appear and disappear. A mysterious porter brings baked potatoes to a young man bleeding from the lash of his chief who demands he carry a load on the Sabbath. In each case God provides for His own.

Taken from 50 years of Guide, a magazine for Christian youth, these stories prove God’s promise: “Those who honor me I will honor” (1 Samuel 2:30, NIV).

  • Faith And Works

    $23.19

That is the message of these 18 readings (written 1881-1902) on the topic of salvation. The gem of the collection is an 1890 manuscript, perhaps Ellen White’s most definitive statement on justification by faith, written during the theological ferment that followed that Minneapolis General Conference of 1888.

While emphasizing the importance of obedience, she wrote, “It is not possible to effect anything in our standing before God or in the gift of God to us through creature merit…Justification is wholly of grace and not procured by any works that fallen man can do…Any works that man can render to God will be far less than nothingness.”

This volume portrays a God of grace who embraces every sinful, struggling soul who accepts His offer of righteousness by faith.

  • Gods Big Idea Primary Devotional

    $22.37

    2016 Primary Devotional

In 365 Fascinating segments, RosAnne Tezt presents Adventist beliefs to kids ages 6-9.
Rosy Tetz starts at the beginning. . .

(a very good place to start), with God’s plan to create a new world. You’ll be guided, in amazing depth and detail, through the six days of Creation, and end up with God’s plan for a new earth.

When you finish this book, you will know what Seventh-day Adventists believe. More important, you will know that God has a plan for this world-and a plan for you, too. And that will make you happy!

Along the way you’ll solve many of life’s lesser mysteries (do fish sleep?) and think about a few of the greater ones (why am I here?). And every fascinating fact about the world we live in (cats purr) becomes a doorway to big truth about life (be content).

What can we learn from, say, schools of fish? Well, cooperation with others, for one thing. Don’t follow the crowd, for another. The end result is win-win wisdom. Think of it as 365 rules for happiness.

God wants you to know His plans. He promises: “I will make you wise. I will show you where to go. I will guide you and watch over you” (Psalm 32:8). You can get wise and grow your soul by starting every morning with a big idea from God. Here are hundreds of them! What are you waiting for?

  • Healing Prayer

    $2.19

“The prayer of faith shall save the sick”
    (James 5:15)

That promise is the subject of this book. After offering a collection of pertinent biblical passages, Ellen G. White sets forth conditions for answered prayer and explains why God does not always say Yes to every request for healing.

She also discusses the preparation necessary on the part of those who pray, the importance of submitting to God’s will, and the relationship between miraculous healing and physical remedies. The book includes an illuminating case history in which God revealed why He declined to answer a prayer for healing.

  • Christmas In My Heart Book 12

    $20.29

To one of the longest-running Christmas story anthologies in American history we add yet another volume–our twelfth in 12 years. The series is one of the finest libraries of Christmas stories in English. What’s the secret of its appeal? Perhaps it’s the lump-in-the-throat factor, the moving stories that grip the heart and moisten the eyes. Fortunately, all 12 volumes are still available in print at the original price.

In this year’s collection Senator John McCain of Arizona recalls his most special Christmas, celebrated in a North Vietnamese prisoner-of-war camp, where men of faith, joyful and triumphant in the face of torment, exchanged gifts they did not have.

Another selection tells the story of the birth of “Silent Night,” one of the songs the prisoners sang. Other stories tell of Christmas money lost and then better-than-found; of relationships mended; of temptations trumped; of orphans nurtured; of lovers reunited. In these pages the human spirit, with all its passion and pride, faith and foibles, finds hope once again in a manger.
