  • Abandon Ship

    $24.69

“One man’s struggle to discover God’s purpose for His church.
Some questions are trivial. Some are important. And some are downright vital, freighted with eternal significance.
Many Seventh-day Adventists are presently asking a question that clearly fits into the vital category. “Is the organized Seventh-day Adventist Church still God’s recognized movement on earth, destined to triumph?”
If you haven’t asked this question yet, it’s bound to arise in your heart sooner or later. Ellen White warned that “a condition of anarchy and wild uncertainty . . . will seek to pervade all our ranks of Seventh-day Adventists.”
Anarchy from within the church, against the church.
Wild uncertainly concerning the standing of the church with God.
This book addresses the present standing and future destiny of the church from the unique persepective of an independent ministry leader who has desperately struggled with the temptation to “abandon ship.” Through that struggle, Ty Gibson has emerged with a rich understanding of God’s purpose for His church, solidly grounded in the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy. You, too, will gain a better grasp of the divine agenda for Adventism as Ty shares his experience and insights with you through these pages.”

  • Accepting Ellen White

    $17.39

The early and mid-nineteenth century was a time of spiritual enlightenment. It wasn’t unusual to attend a religious meeting and observe someone experiencing visionary and charismatic manifestations. Such experiences were not seen as strange or fanatical but were viewed as a sign of God’s power and acceptance. So, in and of itself, Ellen White’s gift of prophecy was not unique or extraordinary but was right in line with the milieu of her time.

So how did Sabbatarian Adventists come to accept her gift as truly prophetic compared to all the others prevalent at that time? It came about through four developmental stages in early Adventism (1844-1889). In Accepting Ellen White, Theodore Levterov examines each stage, its challenges, and the conclusions that eventually led Seventh-day Adventists to complete acceptance of Ellen White’s prophetic gift.

Several useful lessons for dealing with the gift of prophecy today can be learned from these stages of acceptance. First, the Adventist acceptance of the modern manifestation of the prophetic gift is based on the Bible and its teachings. Second, a belief in the gift of prophecy cannot be imposed-it must be experienced. A third lesson to be drawn is that acceptance of Ellen White’s gift has enabled the church to put the doctrine of spiritual gifts into a balanced perspective within its overall theology.

It is important to note that since 1889, questions over the Seventh-day Adventist understanding of Ellen White and her ministry have continued to appear. In spite of these ongoing controversies, Seventh-day Adventism has continued to defend its understanding of and confirm its belief in the prophetic gift of Ellen White that was affirmed through Bible study and prayer in those early years.

  • My Favorite Life Changing Stories

    $22.39

Jimmy reached the hayloft. He was alone. Suddenly, like a gopher, he ducked down a burrow. He groped a moment, elbow-deep in the hay, and drew forth a leather-hinged box of light pine. It was closed with a clasp and a padlock whose key hung from a string round his neck. Inside were a .22 caliber revolver, two boxes of cartridges, a jackknife, a sort of brown canvas knapsack, and three dollars and eighty-eight cents. He picked up the revolver, raised the hammer and lowered it, took out the chamber, filled it with cartridges and then removed them; with an oily rag he polished it. He opened the knapsack slowly, lovingly and then a voice broke in on his preoccupation. Jim! O Jim! His father was calling from the orchard. Jim hesitated. If he stayed where he was, his father might think he was out of hearing, in the wood lot or perhaps in the far pasture. But the voice was coming nearer. Jim! O Jim! Suddenly it was within the barn itself, and cramming everything into the box again, Jim shouted, in a tone not too pleasant, All right! I m comin, and bolted down the ladder. What he wanted was freedom, freedom from all the orders and restraints, and he meant to have it. Throughout my adult lifetime, I’ve been searching for stories having to do with pivotal moments or experiences in a person’s life. What a joy to gather some of the most inspirational, powerful ones into one collection. The beauty of such stories is that we can learn from the mistakes of others rather than making them ourselves.
